Sitting here sniffling today, I came up with an interesting topic.
One that isn’t covered much and that is, “how to stay healthy before and during your big hunt”.
No one wants to catch a cold or the flu before something they’ve waited so long for. So lets take a look at some precautionary measures you can take to make sure you don’t end up coughing and hacking your way through the trip of a lifetime.
For the month or so leading up to your big adventure, whether is be Alaska or out West, try to avoid areas of high germ traffic. Most people don’t realize it but hospitals and doctors offices are red zones. Think about it, how many sick people grab hold of that door knob to enter and thats all it will take to put a damper on your expedition. I know it sounds funny but before you shake someones hand quickly check them out and see if they are exhibiting any signs of illness. If so explain to them that your about to take the trip of a lifetime after a 60 inch bull moose or monster whitetail and thats the only reason you won’t shake. They’ll understand. Don’t forget my personal favorite. Whenever you see those little hand sanitizers at the gas station, restaurant, etc. for god’s sake use them. They kill 99% of germs on your hands and your hands are the way you catch the vast majority of germs.
