Alaska unguided archery moose hunt

An unguided archery moose hunt in Alaska is an excellent choice for a bowman for one simple reason.  Moose are fairly easy to sneak on or call in as compared to other animals in Alaska.  You’re going to have to brush up on your moose calling tactics, but they are a big noisy animal.  As long as the wind is in your favor you can sneak on most moose and don’t even have to be that quiet.  As long as they think it’s a moose coming through the brush you’re ok!

A heavier arrow and broadhead setup will be effective on moose, but lord knows stay out of the shoulder blade.  No matter how bad your broadhead is and powerful your bow, an arrow will not penetrate through a moose’s shoulder blade.

One certainty though, is you need to have at least one high powered weapon in camp.  Where moose live, most assuredly the grizzly bear will as well.  Encounters with grizz are rare, but when they do happen the consequences can be dire.  So do yourself a favor and bring protection along with your bow.

A DIY moose hunt is still a major physical challenge also.  Hunters must be in peak physical condition for this hunt as a moose usually takes several days to pack out unless you’re very lucky and drop him right next to a lake where the charter can land.   If you can pull it off though, an unguided moose hunt can be the most rewarding hunting  experience of your life!
